Edgecombe County wants to help its residents prepare for high demand jobs and achieve a more rewarding life. Through the Edgecombe Works! Promise Program, the county provides scholarships to help pay for classes at Edgecombe Community College.

Edgecombe County is committed to helping its residents prepare for high-demand jobs through skills development. In return, residents achieve a more rewarding life.
In a program unique to Edgecombe County and the Eastern North Carolina region, Edgecombe Works! Office Skills Academy and Promise Program offer scholarships paid by the County to help residents pay for courses offered at Edgecombe Community College.
Edgecombe Works! Office Skills Academy
Residents interested in learning essential skills for working in any office setting may participate in the Office Skills Academy. Open to qualifying Edgecombe County residents and Edgecombe County employees, the academy meets two nights a week over the course of four months. As a hybrid program, courses are both online and in-person on Edgecombe Community College’s Tarboro campus.
Edgecombe Works! Office Skills Academy covers the following:
- Basic computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Fundamentals of accounting
- Workplace etiquette
- Communication skills
- Industry-recognized credentials such as Lean Six Sigma and OSHA-10 certifications
Edgecombe Works! Promise Program
Edgecombe County residents who are recent high school graduates, County employees, job seekers, and/or underemployed are eligable to particpate in the Promise Program.
Edgecombe County provides up to $500 per student per program for the following programs:

In addition, Edgecombe County provides up to $1,000 per student per semester for students enrolled in a college credit earning program.
After tuition and fees, Promise Program dollars may be used for books, transportation, childcare, and other needs. Edgecombe Community College will provide personalized support, and Edgecombe County’s Career Navigator will provide career assistance.
Edgecombe County is also assisting county employees who qualify with support to upskill themselves through Earn as You Learn and Academy programs.
